Hi all, I purchased my RS150 at the end of May 2019, just after 5 months of use, around 13000+km, it start developed weird/rough sound in the engine.
quite frustrated at first because it's just 4+ months old. luckily, managed to find the root cause of the engine sound. you can listen to the audio file below for what kind of sound is it when a problem appears.
Taking some time to diagnose and understand the problem.. in the end, the problem was caused by the engine tensioner problem.
Problem:
Engine tensioner located on the left side of the engine. You will require a size 8mm spanner to remove the old broken tensioner.
After 13000+ km milage, suddenly, the engine sounds weird. Click below link for audio recorded when engine ok and engine with tensioner problem.
Parts:
1) Manual Tensioner. you need to adjust the tension manually after installation. cost around RM12-15+.
2) Auto Tensioner (it automatically adjust the timing chain tension. its got spring inside the tensioner). various choices of parts available from a cheaper solution to the expensive one.
parts can choose from below:
1) use wave 125 tensioners. rm15-25
2) PCX tensioner. rm45-65
3) cbr250 tensioner around rm60-100
4) original rs150 rm70-120
Solution:
to solve the problem, the engine tensioner must be replaced. Use size 8 spanar..its a little tight space to remove the bolt. so, take sometimes to slowly release the bolt.
Two types of engine tensioner.
1) manual tensioner (you need to adjust the tension manually by feeling)
This is a cheaper option, but you need to know how to adjust the tension to the timing chain. Its normally done during the morning during cold engine.
2) auto-tensioner (like the original one installed when you purchased your motorcycle).
this is an expensive solution because the proper replacement of auto engine tensioner will cost around RM60-100, I mean the good tensioner with a proper level of tension on the timing chain. You could get a cheaper one, but, that might not be a good solution to your chain.
search the youtube video on how to do this adjustment.
