Since 15 year ago after own my 1st vehicle..I kept doing my vehicle service myself and usually spending the service or repair work during the weekend..I like to spend 1-2 hours time in the morning or evening to check car condition and doing the service myself if possible.
Usually, in my case, I always maintained the duration for changing the engine oil (EO) within the recommended period/distance..
For example, for this proton, I used Petronas semi synthetic 10w40 engine and this type of engine oil can go up to 7500km or 1 year (though Petronas EO still good even after that 7500km )..depending on the condition of our driving..If my driving is harsh for that period..usually I will change the engine oil a bit early..say 2/3 of total recommend distance..
For my Mercedes w203, I use fully synthetic Petronas 0W40 EO which can run up to 13000km or 1 year. So, its depend on the type of EO you use and what EO manufacturer recommend
Down here, my normal practice when doing a service for my kereta kebal. (proton iswara lmst is also know as kereta kebal in Malaysia)
Tools and stuff needed:
1) Engine oil pan
2) car jack
3) Jack stand
4) engine oil (10w-40 semi synthetic engine oil cost around RM120)
5) engine oil filter (RM10)
5)15 inch spanar
6) White tape
Procedure are listed below:
1)Park the car on the level place and secure the rear wheel with stopper.
2)Jack the car on the front and put the jack stand (for safety reason, please be careful when doing the service or maintenance under the car)
3)Release the nut for the engine oil drain to drain the engine oil. Turn in anti-clockwise to remove the nut. prepare the engine oil pan under the drain cover.
4)While wait for engine oil to empty, change the engine oil filter. you can open the filter using hand and replace with new filter, also by hand tighten. Before put new filter, clean the filter socket using clean tissue towel.
5) Once engine oil is empty from EO drain tank, put the drain nut back and tight at proper feeling. Dont forget to put the white tape to prevent leaking.
6) Remove the jack stand and release the jack to level the car before filing the engine oil.
7) Fill 3.5l engine oil into engine oil filler.
8) write the service engine oil reminder.
9)start the engine and leave for 3-5 minutes to observe the leaking under the car.
ta da..now complete the engine oil change..fresh engine oil means better fuel consumption, less stress to engine,
less friction to engine..thus help longer the engine life..

helo.do you know how to check gearbox oil level and how to change gearbox oil. tq
ReplyDeleteHi, unfortunately, we cannot check gearbox oil level for lmst. But, if there is a small leak from gearbox, you can always topup the gearbox oil until it reach level with oil filling hole.
DeleteFor gearbox oil change, it is an easy work...I will write one article for it. There is one big screw under car to drain the gearbox oil. and to fill new oil at the front of gearbox (not sure the nut size). usually, I use castrol gearbox oil.
