hi all,
my w203 C180K 2004 suddenly not starting when I try to crank the car.
Symptom:
the battery just been replaced with new several month before, so, not a battery problem. plus, I have checked the voltage level of battery. it can provide enough current to crank.
when I turn the key to position two and start cranking the car, car wont crank.
nothing happen and no sound at all from engine.
with the new battery, several possible problem are list down..Finally,...the main problem are starter motor where the carbon are finish..this is normal when the car reach 200k km ++..a lot of part are nearly end of its life.
As starter motor carbon brush are finished. the easiest fix is to replace the starter motor with new one . cost around RM450 for new genuine bosch starter motor specific for Mercedes with part number 0001107540..
you can also replace the carbon brush.on old starter.but, will required some soldering skill and you might need to order original bosch carbon brush for specific starter motor. otherwise, you might face the problem again.
starter motor are located under the air box. acces to starter motor are quite tight and difficult. so, take the time to properly remove the starter. you might need to remove other part first before able to remove starter motor.
you can access the starter motor from under the car. below are step by step on how to remove the starter motor and replace the new starter motor.
1) remove the bottom cover.
2) lift and jack the car. secure the car when working under the car. in my case, i remove both front wheel and put it under the car. rear wheel are lock with some to prevent movement.
3) remove battery negative terminal. this is for safety measure.
4) locate the starter motor.
5) remove the connection from battery to starter. there are two connection. both at different wrench sizes.
6)then, remove the nut that hold airbox just under the starter motor.
7) remove both nut that hold starter motor with the bracket for cable holder.
8) after that, carefully remove old starter motor and replace with new starter motor.
9) installation is in reverse order.
Thank you, hope this help..any question, ask in comment.
